Remember When: A James Maslow Love Story Chapter 1

“I can’t believe you”re leaving!” Ashley, my best friend, exclaimed as she hugged me tightly. I heard her sniffle as though she was crying.
“Hey!” I answered, “You know i’m coming home for Christmas, and i promise to email and text you everything!” I said, stepping out of her hug and into my Explorer. Goodbye Athens, Ohio…Hello Nashville!
I pulled up to the firmiliar house i grew to love many years ago as i saw Aunt Martha and Dakota, my cousin, run from the old farmhouse.
“Ronnie!” Aunt Martha yelled as i ran to hug both of them.
“Oh, how i’ve missed you!” i said.

“So, how have things been since i left?” I asked, sorting through my clothes to find something to wear to the barn dance that night.
“Nothing much has changed.” Dakota responded, laying across the bed. “Except James.” I looked at her in amazment.
“James as in the James who was my best friend?” I responded, slipping on my sundress.
“Yeah, hes not like he was.” she sighed. was this a good change or a bad one?

We arrived at the dance around seven. i scanned the barn before hearing a firmiliar voice behind me.
“Veronica Morris.” James said. i turned to face him. Good change, i imediatly told myself, looking into his soft brown eyes.
“Awwwww! Look at that, old friends reunited!” i heard a voice say. It was Abbey, Abbey Mills. She had hated me since the first grade, and i didn’t even know why. i watched, horrified as i saw James pull Abbey into a hug and a kiss.
“You two are dating?” i asked shyly.
“Yeah, but you”re ok with that, right Veronica?” Abbey responded, hate in her voice as she kissed James again.

I sat on a bale of hay in the far corner of the barn, depressed. How could James like Abbey? She was a horrible person! i heard the begining of the song “Boot Scottin’ Boggie” By Brooks and Dunn blast from the speakers. i immediatly perked up. this was the first song i remember listeining to. James had taught me the line dance to the song when we were eight. I looked up to find James, only to see him dancing and laughing with Abbey. My spirits fell. the song ended as a tear fell down my face. I felt someone standing in front of me.
“Veronica Morris,What’s wrong?” I heard James say. I wiped some stray tears from my face. James grabbed my hand, leading me to the dance floor as the song “Cowgirls don’t cry” started to play.
“Why are you crying anyway.” James asked, worried.
“No reason.” Because I’m in love with you.
